The Three Twos

There are three little “twos” that will tickle your brain—
They sound the same, but they aren’t spelled the same.
They pop up in sentences old and new:
The tricky trio is to, too, and two.

Now to is a helper that points out a place,
Or leads to an action with style and grace.
It hops into phrases like “go to the zoo,”
A tiny word guiding the thing you will do.

But too likes to holler, “I’m added. I’m more.”
It pushes and stretches and tugs at the door.
It means “also” or “extra,” and it shouts with zest—
If someone wants ice cream, you say, “Me too. Yes!”

Then two is a number, a pair, or a duo,
Like two turtles humming “Boogaloo-oh.”
It’s one plus another, a most tiny sum—
A count that begins with a beat of the thumb.

So study these “twos,” for they often cause trouble.
They’ll bounce through writing in double and double.
But master their meanings, and soon you will see
How fun English gets with twos as they should be.
