The Steadfast Pen

Keep your eyes on the writing path God has set before you. Move straight ahead with the work He has given you, refusing every distraction that would pull your focus away.
Proverbs 4:25 Scripture for Writers
The Steadfast Pen

Not every bright and clever line
Belongs within this work of mine.
Some shining projects pull away
From what God gave my pen today.

A worthy book, a welcome call,
Might not be my best work at all.
So Lord, before I write or plan,
Help me follow your command.

The enemy might choose to start
Distracting focus from my heart.
A fresh idea, a tempting page,
Can lure me from my proper stage.

At times a pause slowing my pace
Can be a gift of God’s holy grace.
For rest can tune my ears to hear
His voice when he draws so near.

A tool to learn, a form unknown,
May be a seed that God has sown.
A change in genre, voice, or theme
May serve a greater writing dream.

So when I can’t see the end,
I will trust my Faithful Friend.
I’ll write the truth he gives to me
And wait for what I can’t foresee.

My greatest battles often start
Not on the page, but in my heart.
May God guard my thoughts within
Keeping me from any subtle sin.

Lord, help me choose your work today
Above any bright distracting way.
A committed writer’s path is true
When every word is led by you.
