Inbox Parade

Don’t believe every voice when you first hear it. Question whether the message is really from God, because many false prophets are loose in the world.
1 John 4:1
Inbox Parade

My Inbox goes Ping! from morning till night,
With emails arriving in arrays of delight.
At least a hundred come marching my way.
My Delete finger’s stronger each passing day.

“Oh, wonderful friend,” I’m addressed with a grin,
“We’ll help you achieve the dream you’ve within.”
A five-thousand-dollar solution, I can see—
For ninety-seven bucks, just for special old me.

They promise me riches and fame in a snap,
With directions on a guaranteed-success map.
They swear their offer is amazingly sweet.
After reading the first line… I click delete.

Another email offers an education trick:
“A breakthrough discovery. Learn it real quick.
Just watch half an hour of video delight—
And everything gets easy. Your future is bright.”

They promise the secrets that gurus all hide,
With wisdom that flows in a how-to tide.
Just thirty short minutes of a video so neat,
But I won’t waste my time… I click delete.

Generous people write with glorious cheer:
“We found your great book, special this year.
We can link you to thirty-thousand readers today—
And your bestseller status will be well on its way.”

They never will tell me which title they mean,
Of dozens and dozens from my writing routine.
But whichever it is, “I love it,” they repeat.
I don’t bother to reply… I just click delete.

Yet mixed in the flood of the great Inbox Parade
Are messages from friends and acquaintances made.
Those notes bring a smile and a pause at my seat—
For those special ones… I don’t click delete.
