Holy Daze

Pay no attention to people’s judgment of what you should eat or drink, or whether you should respect what they regard as special days such as the new moon, holy days, or the Sabbath, which were no more than symbols of the reality we have in Jesus Christ.
Colossians 2:16–17 The Discussion Bible
Holy Daze

Oh, Paul would say, “Don’t get caught in the daze,
In calendars, traditions, or celebrative ways.
A ‘holy day’ label won’t make your heart true.
It’s hearing God daily in all you say and do.”

Now some days feel special—that much is clear—
Like Christmas with carols and Easter with cheer.
When hearts are more open, when minds pause to see,
We don’t want to miss a great chance for ministry.

New Year’s Eve used to be a watchful delight,
As churches held services lasting past midnight.
New Year’s resolutions. Folks just laugh and say,
“They’re broken by breakfast on the very next day.”

Yet here is the secret. Don’t miss this call,
For God isn’t confined to a date on a wall.
Not one day is higher, not one day more grand.
Each moment is held in his sovereign hand.

Faith good for yesterday isn’t quite enough.
Today has new trials and ways that are rough.
From glory to glory, step out in new faith each day.
Let God make you stronger than you were yesterday.

Don’t wait for a season or trumpet or chime.
Don’t wait for a holiday that’s perfect in time.
For God is whispering, “Walk close to me.”
Then, today will be the holiest any day can be.
