Fence Post Arguments

Gracious words are sweet as honey, great medicine for mind and body.
Proverbs 16:24 The Discussion Bible
Fence Post Arguments

When feeling alone, needing someone to talk to,
I’m happy to converse with a person who’s new.
If nobody is there, I’ll still have my say.
I’ve talked to myself through many a day.

My mother-in-law once chuckled with glee,
“You’d argue with fence posts,” she said to me.
And honestly speaking, she wasn’t far wrong,
A silent old fence makes a marvelous throng.

For never once has a fence post declared,
“Your logic is crazy. You’ve come unprepared.”
Posts stand there politely through warmth and frost.
They’re the most silent listeners I’ve come across.

In the mirror, I can have a talking affair,
Discussing matters while combing my hair.
Why wouldn’t I speak when I see a face
That appears so eager to hear my case?

So whether it’s today or some later sunrise,
Feel free to share your thoughts and replies.
I love all comments—both thoughtful and free—
Especially if you dare to disagree with me.
