Beyond the Odds

If you don’t fight for us, we have no chance of winning.
Psalm 108:12 The Discussion Bible
Beyond the Odds

Some have dreams beside the flashing light,
Thinking their luck will change one night.
They chase a prize through hope and chance,
While flips of fortune lead a deceptive dance.

A coin may fall on heads once more,
Then tumble different from before.
The odds may tease. The odds may sway.
But truth will rise through time one day.

The gambler hopes the dice will land
Exactly the way his heart has planned.
Yet probability will still remain
A ruler over a short-lived gain.

Faith doesn’t have to depend on luck.
It doesn’t crumble when plans get struck.
Those who will trust the Lord above
Can depend on his unchanging love.

When Abraham was called to roam,
He left behind his land and home.
He could not see the road ahead,
Yet chose to go wherever God led.

When Peter stepped on stormy seas,
The waves weren’t there to please.
Yet Jesus gave power to his sinking feet
And made his impossible walk complete.

A farmer waits through sun and rain,
Then gathers up the ripened grain.
No harvest comes from idle ground
Where seeds are never scattered round.

The fisherman must cast with care
Where hungry fish are swimming there.
No catch appears in barren streams
No matter how sincere the dreams.

God is sovereign, wise, and true.
He sees what we can never view.
The future rests within his hand,
Not chance, luck, nor shifting sand.

So do not wager soul and breath
On fading things that end in death.
The safest path beneath the sun
Is trusting God till life is done.

We do not know about tomorrow,
Its joy or pain, its grief or sorrow.
But God already knows the end
And walks beside us as our friend.

So let the restless world still bet
On odds they cannot measure yet.
As for the heart that seeks God’s way,
Its hope grows stronger every day.
