No Room for Regret

“After a man puts his hand to the plow,” Jesus said, “he is not fit for the Kingdom of God if he keeps looking back.”
Luke 9:62 The Discussion Bible
No Room for Regret

I once looked back through memory’s glass,
At roads unfinished and shadows long past.
But the mirror fogged with a sorrowful sigh,
Showing no road ahead, just a wondering why.

Regret likes to whisper, “You failed. You fell short.”
It pounds on the soul like a courtroom retort.
But truth speaks gently and calls from within:
“You walked by the light you were given back then.”

Some wrestle with storms they never controlled—
As though wind could be captured or lightning be told.
They grumble at thunder and argue with rain,
But fighting the clouds only deepens the pain.

We walk on with purpose though answers are few,
Still trusting the Lord to lead us on through.
If we did our best with the light that we had,
There’s no room for regret to leave us sad.

I cannot demand from my yesterday’s mind
The wisdom that only comes later with time.
I acted according to what I knew then.
Grace keeps me moving ahead once again.

So onward I plow with my eyes straight ahead,
Not turning toward ghosts or words left unsaid.
The furrows before me still call for my care—
For crops never flourish from backward despair.
