Never Alone in the Fire
When you cross the waters, I will be with you. Crossing the river, you won’t drown. When you walk through the fire, you won’t be burned. The flames won’t touch your skin, for I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

I would not choose the flame or heat,
Nor want to walk a hard rocky street.
Yet looking back through trials I’ve known,
I can see that I have never walked alone.
The fire glowed with a fearful light,
And shadows stretched into the night.
But through the sparks and swirling air,
The Lord himself was standing there.
The flames could roar. The winds could cry.
Yet wonderful peace came from on high.
A calm so deep, so rich, so bright,
Would turn my darkness into light.
The world may stare and wonder why
I still have hope when tears are nigh.
They can’t see with their earthly eyes
The strength that Jesus’ love supplies.
His yoke is really easy, kind, and true,
His burden light when carried through.
Not because roads are free from pain,
But he walks with me through the strain.
Each trial becomes a sacred place,
A living lesson filled with grace.
The fire that once inspired dread
Now proves his promises instead.
So when the heat begins to rise,
And smoke obscures the clearest skies,
Take heart and trust the Shepherd’s care.
The fire may burn, but he’s still there.
And one day we will plainly see
What now might be a mystery:
The hottest flames we feared the most
Have brought us closer to our Host.
