Hugs that Reach the Heart
No matter where we are, how much or how little we might have, or what transgressions might be a part of our past, we need not be ashamed, because God’s love for us is made obvious in his gift of the Holy Spirit, who fills our hearts.
There once was a boy getting constant loving care,
From parents, aunts, and uncles who often were there.
Grandma would hug him, and the family would cheer—
Yet something inside whispered, “No one is near.”
They gave him affection. They gave him delight.
They said he was special, both morning and night.
But deep in his heart churned a haunting refrain:
“Is this really love… for it comes with such pain?”
He smiled at the praise and the pats on the head,
While questions and doubts taunted him instead.
“Am I really worthy? Can I ever be good enough?”
The emptiness inside made his journey so rough.
One day, a wind blew that none could contain—
A fire without smoke, yet a sweet, gentle flame.
God’s Spirit swept in and filled him deep within,
Like rivers of joy flowing out to the sea again.
The loneliness melted. The shadows grew small.
For love that is endless had answered the call.
No human affection could fill that desperate part—
But God’s love was sufficient, flooding his heart.
So if you feel lonely while people are all around,
And praise and affection leave a hollow sound,
There’s One who can fill every echo and space—
The Spirit of God who brings hugs full of grace.
