Working Compass

As I looked at everything I had accomplished, I felt like I had been chasing the wind. What lasting value did any of it have? There was no profit under the sun. — Ecclesiastes 2:11 The Discussion Bible

In a world where we hustle and race to the top,
We think, if we’re moving, we should never stop.
But rushing and running won’t prove we’re right.
It’s following the Lord that will bring us delight.

We chase after goals with a sparkle and gleam,
But not every goal is a God-given dream.
Success isn’t riches or power or fame.
It’s walking with God and exalting his name.

Some wander and wonder. “What should I pursue?”
They fill up their calendars but don’t have clue.
To be aimless, you see, is not doing too few.
It’s walking without God in all that you do.

The steps that we take, though seemingly small,
Are huge when guided by God, who sees over it all.
We might not know the “who,” “what,” “why,” or “when,”
But his perfect plan will make sense in the end.

His Word is our compass, his Spirit our guide.
With God walking with us, we’re safe to abide.
Our aim should be simple. Our hearts should align.
“Not my will, but yours.” Let God’s purpose be mine.

So let’s not get lost in our own little schemes.
Let’s live for what fulfills God’s great dreams.
Each step that we take, each race that we run,
Should follow his heart—his will be done.
