Wilderness Choice

The Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan. Jesus refused. “Get out of here, Satan. The scriptures say: Love the Lord your God and serve only him.” — Matthew 4:1, 10 The Discussion Bible (TDB)

Out in the desert, so lonely and bare,
The devil came sneaky with tricks and a dare.
“Make bread from these stones. Take a jump. Make a show.
Take power and kingdoms. The world’s yours, you know.”

But Jesus said, “No, I will follow God’s Word.
I won’t move an inch till his voice has been heard.
Not bread, not a stunt, not a crown will I take.
I’ll trust in my Father with each choice I make.”

Like children who wobble when learning to stand,
We’re steady and safe when we hold to God’s hand.
But pulling away brings a stumble and a fall,
For strength isn’t ours. It is God’s, after all.

So lean on his Word when temptation draws near.
Stay close to his side, and you’ll walk without fear.
For Jesus has shown us the way we must live—
Not grabbing for self, but to God we must give.
