Two Roads

Enter through the small gate. For many take the wide gate and broad road that lead to destruction. Only a few find the small gate and narrow road that lead to life. — Matthew 7:13–14 The Discussion Bible

There are two roads ahead, each leading somewhere,
One broad and one narrow. Choose wisely, with care.
The wide one was inviting, smooth all the way,
With signs that said Easy and Fun and Hooray.

The folks on the easy road were merry and bright,
Feasting and dancing from morning to night.
The path seemed so easy, so smooth and so wide,
But trouble was waiting just past the last stride.

Now the narrow road—it was humble and plain,
No glitter, no glamor, no bright, bold refrain.
But it led to a place full of mercy and light,
Where God’s glory shines and all things are right.

Not many would find it, though it wasn’t so far.
It just didn’t shine like the wide highways are.
You had to look closely, be humble and wise,
And follow the truth, not the glittering lies.

So now we must choose which road we will do.
Will it be with the crowd and the dazzling view?
No, choose the small gate. Be faithful. Be strong.
It’s narrow but right … and it’s where you belong.
