Trusted Words

Don’t swear by Heaven above or Earth below, as if by swearing you’re telling the truth when you weren’t at other times. You can avoid condemnation by being entirely truthful in all you say, your yes meaning yes, your no meaning no. — James 5:12 The Discussion Bible

If you say you will do it, then do it you must,
For promises crumble when decayed with rust.
A yes should mean yes, and a no should mean no.
Like seeds in the garden, they’re planted to grow.

A bridge that is shaky will wobble and fall,
But one that is sturdy stands strong through it all.
So too with our words: If they bend, they will break,
And trust, once it’s lost, is a hard thing to remake.

God’s promises sparkle. They’re steady and true.
He never says one thing and then fails to do.
If we are his children, then let it be shown,
That faithfulness lives in the seeds we’ve sown.

So don’t overpromise. Don’t trick or mislead.
Say less if you must, but do what you’ve agreed.
Dependable living brings honor above,
Mirroring God’s truth and his love.
