The Right Words

Let empty words and lies have no part in my life, and second, let me be neither poor nor rich. Give me enough to satisfy my needs. If I have too much, then I might feel independent and say, “Who needs the Lord?” If I were poor, I might become a thief, dishonoring God. — Proverbs 30:8–9 The Discussion Bible

Oh, keep all the lies and deception away.
I don’t want their tricks in my life today.
Let your words fill my heart. Let truth guide my way.
No empty words here. No pretense. No delay.

And since I am asking, please hear my desire:
Never riches too great, nor a life that’s too dire.
Just give me enough—the right, perfect touch.
Not too little or too much. Just enough is enough.

If I have too much, I might foolishly say,
“I don’t need the Lord. I can go my own way.”
But if I have little and hunger’s my fight,
I might steal some bread, which wouldn’t be right.

Give me what I need to be satisfied and free,
A portion that’s just what you want for me.
Neither poor nor rich, let me walk in between,
Content in the middle, where my heart stays clean.

Oh, the truth without lies is just what I need.
That’s the best life for me, a wonderful creed.
I’ll follow your voice, expecting you to appear,
For your truth is a treasure I’ll always hold dear.
