The Lord’s Way

People can make any number of plans, thinking they will work, but only the Lord’s direction guarantees success. — Proverbs 19:21 The Discussion Bible

We live in a world where folks like to say,
“I’m owed what I want, and I want it today.”
We stomp and demand. We pout when denied.
But joy won’t flourish where our egos reside.

We pray for an abundance, for riches and fame,
Then grumble at God when suffering came.
We ask for his favor, his gifts, and his care,
But seldom pray, “Lord, what should I share?”

Like Jonah, we run when our plans and his disagree,
Then shout from the waves, “God, come rescue me.”
He calms our storms, though we grumble and groan,
And teaches us lessons we should already have known.

We long for a life without sorrow or pain,
But sunshine feels brighter when watered by rain.
The grapes on the vine must be crushed for their wine,
And strength is revealed when our hearts intertwine.

We cling to our plans, but they crumble and fall.
God’s ways are the best. They make sense after all.
For when we let go and allow him to steer,
The fog of confusion grows wondrously clear.

Entitlement whispers, “You’re owed what you crave.”
But freedom is found when we choose to behave.
As servants who trust that his ways are the best—
Will find peace in the storm and unexplainable rest.

So let’s trade our whining for worship instead,
And thank him for blessings still waiting ahead.
For life becomes rich when our hearts humbly say,
“I’m happiest, Lord, when you have your way.”
