Searching Everywhere

I’m not playing hide-and-seek with you. I want to be found, but you must come searching, with all your heart wanting to find me. — Jeremiah 29:13 The Discussion Bible

I searched in the cupboard. I looked on the chair,
I checked the pantry, but no, it wasn’t there.
I wanted that something I couldn’t yet name,
A longing inside me that always remained.

I looked to the left, and I looked to the right.
I peered into the darkness and squinted in the light.
It seemed that the answer was nowhere in view,
But God kept whispering, “I’m right here with you.”

I thought if I bought it, I’d finally be glad.
That filled me for a while but then left me sad.
The great treasures I bought soon faded away,
Like shadows that vanish on a cloudy day.

Then God said, “My child, if I’m the one you seek.
Don’t check the rooftop or climb a high peak.
I’m here in the silence. I’m here in plain sight.
I’m found when you seek me with all your might.”

So now I keep searching, but not as before,
For riches or pleasures or wanting much more.
I search for the One who can set my heart free.
I have what I was missing—God here with me.
