Said Without Words

We speak the truth in love so you will grow up to be more like Christ in every way, for he is the head of our family. — Ephesians 4:15 The Discussion Bible

There once was a Christian who sat in the pew,
He listened and prayed but mostly withdrew.
Leaning back, he thought, I’m quiet, that’s true.
I have no comment. That’s nothing new.

He lingered in silence, where his questions would stay,
And watched from a distance, unsure what to say.
He thought, Let the bold ones go preach and shout.
I’ll just sit here quietly, figuring things out.

But deep in his soul was a flicker, a light,
That whispered God’s truth in the still of the night.
A voice gently whispered, You do have a role.
Your silence can speak from a heart that is whole.

God doesn’t need volume to make his words clear.
He speaks in the wind and the heart that draws near.
He works through a whisper, a note, or a glance
And calls every quiet heart into the dance.

Moses once stammered and said, “I have no voice.”
But God said, “I’ll help you. You’re still my best choice.”
For even the quiet have something to give—
A whisper of truth in the life that they live.

Elijah once trembled and hid in a cave,
But God didn’t scold him, but whispered, Be brave,
Speaking in the stillness, not with thunder or flame.
He showed that his power is not tied to fame.

So if you’re a quiet one, humble, without choice,
Don’t think your silence gives you no voice.
Your prayers are like incense that rise to the skies,
And God hears them all. He’s faithful and wise.

A smile that is honest, a hug that is true,
A moment of kindness—those all preach too.
You may not have sermons or rhymes on display,
But Christ in your life still has something to say.

So whisper God’s truth through the life that you live,
Be faithful, be present, and be ready to give.
And know when you feel like you’ve nothing to say,
God speaks through his people—in his quiet way.
