Young David was chosen, anointed one day,
With oil on his head in a most sacred way.
God whispered, “I’ve called you. Now rise up and go.”
His relationship with the Lord really began to grow.
His cup was filled with what couldn’t be sold,
Not with fine treasures of silver or gold.
It brimmed with God’s goodness, his strength and might—
An overflowing blessing that continued through the night.
He tended his sheep with a harp and a song,
Yet knew in his spirit that he didn’t belong
Just tending the hillsides with lambs half asleep—
For God had a mission far bigger to keep.
A giant came roaring with taunts that were loud,
And Israel trembled, a terribly frightened crowd.
But David stepped forward with faith as his shield—
His cup overflowed, and Goliath fell in the field.
Through trials and troubles and a king in a rage,
He hid in caves to avoid the enemy’s rampage.
God kept overflowing the cup in his hand—
Preparing his heart for the throne of the land.
For when God anoints you, he pours from above
A flood of his presence, his power and his love.
David discovered—as all of us should know—
God’s overflow leads to where he wants to go.
So trust in the Lord when the pathway is steep,
When promises linger and nights steal your sleep.
For if God has called you, he’ll fill you right up,
And like David, you’ll live with an overflowing cup.
