Our Narrow Way Home

Enter through the small gate. For many take the wide gate and broad road that lead to destruction. Only a few find the small gate and narrow road that lead to life. — Matthew 7:13–14 The Discussion Bible

Sharing God’s glory—now that’s something grand.
It’s growing in his nature as we walk hand-in-hand.
A heart that’s washed clean, as only God can do,
Leaves sin with no doorway to wander through.

Billy has known God forever—or so it might seem.
Since his toddler days, he knew God was supreme.
He couldn’t recall days when the Lord wasn’t near.
God was always present, giving him no need to fear.

Free will says we’re never “too old” to choose.
Billy had everything to gain, nothing to lose.
He could go his own way, the wide road with its flair,
But the narrow road’s love was the glory he’d share.

As years gently teach us and shape who we are,
The narrow is better than the broad road, by far.
We don’t lose our choosing. That’s not the deal.
Over time, pleasing the Lord is all we care to feel.

Becoming more like Jesus is a process that’s slow.
Through yielding and trusting, we let him grow.
When his Spirit has filled every corner inside,
There’s no longing left to wander from his side.

We’re not forced into goodness, bound, or restrained—
But over time, we’ve changed, completely re-trained.
With no hunger for sin, no need for such insanity,
We’re free to walk with Jesus in complete liberty.

So hand-in-his-hand, not compelled, not afraid,
We walk as new creatures that his Spirit has made.
Not choosing rebellion, not tempted to roam—
We walk with Jesus on our narrow way home.
