Need for Help

Two people working together can accomplish more than working separately. — Ecclesiastes 4:9 The Discussion Bible

When we’re little, we ask for a hand,
To tie up our shoes or help us stand.
But as we grow tall, we start to declare,
“I can do it myself,” with pride in the air.

We march ahead with a confident cheer,
Forgetting the truth that’s perfectly clear:
No matter how strong or clever or smart,
We still need help to finish what we start.

We think we can see, but our eyes are quite blind,
To the gaps and the flaws in our wonderful mind.
We plan and we push, convinced we can cope,
But wisdom begins where we learn how to hope.

It’s tricky, you see, to ask for just the right aid,
When we don’t always know the mistakes we’ve made.
That’s why we need the Lord, who is higher above,
To guide us with truth and surround us with love.
