Those who are faithful in small concerns will be faithful when much is at stake. And he who is dishonest in petty matters will be dishonest in what is most important. — Luke 16:10 The Discussion Bible

It slipped through the cracks. Oh my, goodness me.
Losing track of time, I failed to be where I said I’d be.
A flood of distractions had sneaked into my day.
Now I’m embarrassed—don’t know what to say.

Einstein once said, “I won’t store reminders up here.”
He waved at his head and said, “Too cluttered, I fear.”
So notes did the remembering. Lists did the chore,
Which says geniuses shouldn’t trust memory more.

Now I’m no Einstein—no crazy, wild hair—
Which means I need reminders everywhere.
Outlook goes ding, and VueMinder goes buzz.
Reminders shout, “Don’t forget! Just because.”

Why fuss if a task does a slip and a slide?
Is it pride? Is it image? A nick to my side?
If only my reputation took the small hit,
I might shrug and say, “I’ll live with it.”

But here’s the big gulp and the reason I care:
I serve the Lord, and his name travels there.
I don’t want my forgetful, well-meaning delay
To trip up the good he’s been planning today.

So lists are my helpers and reminders my friends.
They keep little cracks from growing deep ends.
With prayer and a calendar humming along,
I try to stay faithful—and finish things strong.
