I thought I could do it. I thought I was tough,
My plan was quite clever—until life got rough.
I steered my own boat through the wind and the rain,
But somehow my rowing just brought me more pain.
Then deep in the thunder, I heard a faint sound,
A whisper of mercy that turned me around.
“Stop straining so hard. You’re not meant to steer.
Just lend me the oars, and I’ll carry you clear.”
I sputtered and argued. “But what if I sink?”
God just smiled. “You’re closer than you think.
For losing your balance was something I planned—
So I can teach you about working hand-in-hand.”
So trembling, I surrendered, afraid but aware
That at that moment, peace was filling the air.
The waves lost their temper. The sky turned gold.
And the most wonderful story began to unfold.
I learned that surrender was not giving in.
It was letting God guide where I thought I’d win.
I traded my chaos for his calmness and cheer,
And found that his presence is always so near.
Sometimes I stumble and think I’ll take back control,
But his grace keeps on tugging and healing my soul.
Each time that I loosen my grip on the day,
He shows me his great joy in the gentlest way.
So if you’re still fighting to captain your sea,
Remember this truth that’s been shaping me:
Winning the battle requires surrender, you know.
Just say, “Lord, I give you my all. I’m letting go.”
