Jesus, Hold my Hand

“Come.” Jesus said. So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. When he felt the strong wind and saw the high waves, he was frightened and began to sink. “Sir, save me.” At once, Jesus grabbed him. “You of weak faith, why did you doubt?” — Matthew 14:29–31 The Discussion Bible

One night in a dream, when the moon glowed so bright,
The Lord came to visit a certain man in the night.
“Are you willing,” God asked, “for a hard, rugged climb?”
The man said, “For you? Whatever you want … anytime.”

Then God made an offer so assuring … so grand.
“But I want you to know, I will hold your hand.”
The man’s heart leaped for joy. Was it true?
“Oh, I would die for that. Anything for you.”

Many hardships came, yet always with a happy song.
His wife took sick, but her faith remained strong.
His once-flourishing job disappeared through the cracks,
And the bills threatened to pile up in impossible stacks.

He turned to a calling of writing and speech,
With skills not yet polished and goals beyond reach.
He worked and he practiced with trembling and grit—
For his family depended on every small bit.

His wife stayed far longer than doctors had said—
A miracle walking, although frail in her bed.
But then came a whisper from Heaven above:
“It’s time that I take her, the dear one you love.”

Through all those years of darkness and storm,
God kept his great promise to comfort and warm.
The bills were all paid, and the man still grew,
For amazingly, he flourished in all that he knew.

But now his wife was gone. The nights felt so cold,
No partner beside him and no hand left to hold.
Could he face the long future, just one man alone?
Or was there a Presence still steady and known?

Yes, year after year, God proved true to his Word.
The man never was lonely, God’s promise assured.
For the Lord held his hand through waves every quarter,
And that, you should know … is how he still walks on water.
