Finish the Race

After we understand the fundamental principles of Jesus’ message, we need to move on toward a perfect relationship with God. We should not have to re-learn what we have already learned. Good works don’t make us righteous, and we need to trust God in all situations. — Hebrews 6:1 The Discussion Bible

Now listen up closely. Come gather around.
There’s a truth in the Word that is solid and sound:
When you know Jesus and what he has done,
The journey’s not over. It’s only begun.

If you’ve learned the basics, the what and the why,
Like trusting in God and not needing to try,
You know his favor isn’t earned with hustle and sweat.
Nope. That’s not the deal. We should never forget.

Good works are a gift, but don’t be confused.
God’s love isn’t earned, but it can be refused.
He loves you already. He’s paid all the costs.
Now grow in that love and don’t live like you’re lost.

You don’t need to start back at Lesson One.
You’ve learned how to walk. It’s now time to run.
It’s time to move forward, with purpose and grace,
To use what you’ve learned to finish the race.

When storms start to blow or when life feels unfair,
Don’t panic or worry. Just trust that he’s there.
He’s faithful and kind, his promises sure,
And his perfect love will forever endure.

Now walk in the truth that your heart holds dear.
Let faith move ahead without pause or fear.
No need to repeat what his grace has begun—
Just follow your Shepherd, God’s glorious Son.
