I once said, “Map it all out—every mile, every bend.
Know where you’re going right up to the end.”
But walking with God follows a unique design.
He sees dangers ahead and wants his way to be mine.
I don’t need a compass that points north or west,
Or a chart of the future, labeled and neatly dressed.
I just need one step where his whisper says, “Here,”
Follow my footprints, not next year’s frontier.”
I don’t see where the pathway will land,
So I love the way he holds my hand.
I don’t need directions all written in ink—
But I must trust him beyond what I think.
God says, “Wait,” but at other times, “Now go.”
So often the reason is something I won’t know.
But step after step, as I choose to obey,
My path is revealed in a wonderful way.
So I’ll walk without knowing the when or the where,
Without seeing the map or understanding this affair.
For faith isn’t sight, and trust isn’t proof—
It’s following God when the plan’s still aloof.
God is never lost, although I might feel unsure.
His guidance is steady, and his promise is secure.
I’ll take the next step. Yes, that’s all that I’ll do,
For he knows my way … and he’s walking it too.
