Church of the Centuries

Every day, they were meeting for prayer in the Temple, sharing meals in their houses, unified in their desire to help others, giving God the glory. The people received their expressions of love, and the gatherings of believers kept growing. — Acts 2:46–47 The Discussion Bible

They didn’t have steeples or bells that went ding,
No stage or pews lined in rows, no choirs to sing.
People gathered in homes with rooms down the hall,
For church was a gathering of believers, that’s all.

They met by a table, a lamp, or a chair,
With a meal and fellowship with prayer.
They shared stories and learned about their Savior—
Like a family of friends, not public crowd behavior.

In houses and courtyards, from doorframe to door,
They gave to help others and found they had more.
A letter, a story, memories of miracles were told,
In fellowship more precious than silver or gold.

No signs on the street said, “Come worship here.”
But hope had a way of drawing many people near.
For when you feel seen and forgiven and known,
A house starts to feel like a heavenly zone.

So church wore no address, no title, no sign.
It happened wherever God’s people could shine.
Not brick or stone, not a building with walls,
But people are being led to wherever God calls.
