Bravely Marching

As I walk through the most trying times of my life, a dark valley of the shadow of death, I still don’t have to fear, because you’re at my side. Like a shepherd who protects his lambs, your rod and your staff keep me safe. — Psalm 23:4 The Discussion Bible

Some folks are so fearful, they won’t step outside,
They lock all their doors, trying to feel safe inside.
Others rush ahead where angels wouldn’t tread,
But truth walks a different path, being God-led.

Fear paints big pictures of what might appear,
It conjures up stories we dislike but still hear.
Although they rarely happen, they feel so real—
Hard-as-granite images we clearly see and feel.

A boy screams, saying a monster is under his bed,
Until Dad turns on the light, exposing what was said.
No claws and no growls, no shadows to dread—
Fear fades as soon as the truth is seen, instead.

God doesn’t say, “Theres no need to be afraid.”
He dispels the darkness where our fears were made.
“Don’t fear, for I am here” is one message he sends.
He is our Mighty Deliverer, the best of all friends.

At the sight of Goliath, David didn’t run away fast.
He saw that God’s power had the giant outclassed.
He knew who was fighting and who held the sword.
Fear lost its grip as unwavering trust in God soared.

Some fears hang around without shape or a name.
They buzz in our thoughts like a half-known refrain.
But they fade one-by-one when truth takes the floor,
As the lies pack their bags and can’t stay anymore.

You can’t simply decide to have no fear today.
Faith brings the thoughts that chase fear away.
God’s love moves right in and won’t let fear stay,
For his light dispels the darkness. Hip-hip-hooray!

So walk with the Lord, always praying as you go.
Trust him. For he knows more than you know.
Success often differ from plans we have drawn,
But his ways are much better—so march bravely on.
