In grade school, my favorite class was recess. At home, I had chores that had to be done before I could go out to play. Later, I would never have taken a job if it hadn’t been for the pay that let me have fun. Now, I’m so thankful to have learned how much fun work can be. When I’m pleasing the Lord, work is like fishing for a living.
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”
— Matthew 4:19
Ten Thoughts to Ponder
- If I think I know all that God wants to do, I am most certainly wrong. The only question is to what extent.
- We should have much greater delight in walking with the Lord than in having him walk with us.
- Having to change is the harsh reality of self-improvement, which can be difficult to accept when we love our old selves.
- An important part of learning is unlearning what we thought was right, but it wasn’t.
- Admitting that we don’t know is a childhood strength that adults need for growth.
- Because anything we want to know can be quickly looked up on the Internet, we live in an age where learning and remembering doesn’t matter much.
- By creating false memories, people change the past that they want to forget.
- Other people’s successes cannot be a model for my success, because God’s plan for me is different.
- I need to remove the pieces in my puzzle that don’t fit. I just think they do. If only I could identify which ones they are.
- I prefer what God really wants for me rather than to have what I imagine that he wants.
