Open Doors

Inspiring
What’s the difference between temptations, trials, and triumphs? All are available through open doors that we might or might not want to enter, if only we could know what lies on the other side.
This is why I often pray, “Lord, please don’t open a door that you don’t want me to walk through, because you know how dumb I am.”

You will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way to go. Walk in that direction,” and you will turn to the right or left as you are led.
— Isaiah 30:21

Ten Thoughts to Ponder

  1. An eagerness to learn opens many doors for discovery.
  2. People’s perception of reality turns upside down when they see cause as the effect and the effect as the cause.
  3. Like Peter walking on water, our stability depends on our focus upon the Lord’s command to “come.”
  4. A huge toolbox has no value unless the Lord helps me know which tool is needed and helps me use it.
  5. The better we know God, the more we can trust him.
  6. Being used of God for his good purpose changes our value from worthless to priceless.
  7. If we think we must understand God before we can trust him, we will never be able to trust him.
  8. What God doesn’t do is as significant as what he does.
  9. If God cares enough to see every sparrow that falls, we should know he cares about us and knows everything we think, say, and do—for we are worth much more than two sparrows.
  10. As a computer has dozens of unseen tasks going on in the background, we can’t see what God is working to cause all things to work together for good.

Questions for Further Thought

  • How much do our motives matter in deciding whether an open door is an opportunity and not a danger?
  • What did you learn after a good choice turned out to be bad?
