Sceva had seven sons who studied the apostle Paul’s methods in delivering people from demons. They knew exactly what to say. But there was a problem. Without the Holy Spirit behind their words, they had no power over the forces of evil.
A religious form might seem real to those who blindly follow a liturgy, but it will never fool the Lord.
They have a religious form with only a façade of righteousness, not the Holy Spirit acting with power in their lives. Do not fellowship with these people.
— 2 Timothy 3:5
Ten Thoughts to Ponder
- Watching the clock is a needless waste of time.
- Wild, unruly hair may make you look like Einstein, but it won’t make you any smarter.
- If we think we know, we should still wonder if we really do.
- When not having what I want is a necessity, I need to be satisfied with the dissatisfaction.
- No matter how hard I try to succeed, I’m sure to fail without God’s help. But in working to fulfill his purpose in my life, the only way I can fail is to quit.
- When I do nothing, the results are guaranteed.
- Today is the most important day of my life, because I can do nothing about the past, and I can do nothing about the future until it arrives.
- Having done all we know to do, we desperately need God’s help to know what more to do.
- Were it not for the tests, I would have no testimony.
- We think we know what we need, but God knows better.
Questions for Further Thought
- How do we know that our relationship with the Lord is real, and we have a place reserved for us in Heaven?
- Why are some people satisfied with a knockoff instead of owning the real thing?
