When storms with thunder and dreams fall apart,
When cracks break through the desires of your heart,
When something you treasured slips through your hand,
It’s hard to keep trusting what you don’t understand.
For losses will happen, and those losses will be real.
They’ll sting and linger and ache in what you feel.
There’s no skipping around them, no cheerful disguise.
Sometimes there are tears that must fall from your eyes.
God sees every breaking, each piece and each part.
He gathers the fragments that fall from your heart.
He doesn’t pretend that the loss isn’t there.
He does feel your pain with his loving care.
He covers the sorrow, not hiding the cost,
Bringing new life from all that was lost.
Like seeds in the soil that must first disappear,
There’s growth in the darkness we can’t see clear.
So when something’s taken and nothing feels fair,
And sometimes you ask, “God, don’t you care?”
Remember—although loss is part of our way,
God’s grace will redeem what was taken away.
There will be losses. Yes, that’s certainly true.
But there’s never a loss that hides from his view.
When held in his hands, through all that you face,
No loss is too great for the reach of his grace.
