Awakened Heart

Love will never seek to injure others—which is why writing with love does what the Law was meant to do. This is a call for authors to wake up and live out what we claim to believe, because the time to give an account for how we’ve used our words and our calling is drawing near. — Romans 13:10–11 Scripture for Writers

You can shout out the truth till your voice turns blue,
With facts stacked up tall and simple logic in view.
But some cross their arms and refuse to agree.
Their minds build a wall where belief can’t be.

They argue and question and sharpen each word.
They doubt what is spoken or recordings heard.
For truth, when it’s told, like a hammer or chart,
Can bounce off the head and stay far from the heart.

But tell people a story with characters under strain,
Sharing hope in the joy and crying out of the pain.
Let characters stumble and learn as they go,
And truth will breathe in things that they know.

A story can whisper what shouting can’t say.
It slips past defenses and lights up the way.
It reaches where our emotions get their start,
Bypassing the mind to awaken the heart.
