Perfect Timing

This vision is for an appointed time in the future. That day may seem slow in coming, but wait expectantly, for it will definitely come. It won’t wait for you to get ready. — Habakkuk 2:3 The Discussion Bible

I hurried ahead with a tick-tick and tick-tock,
Tapped on my watch, then stared at the clock.
“Why isn’t it happening right now?” I cried,
But God simply smiled and walked at my side.

“Slow down,” God said. “There’s a pace just for you.
Not too fast, not too slow—just steady and true.
Some moments need waiting. Others need a shove.
Guide both with wisdom, wrapped up in my love.”

I asked God for answers—the when and how,
The later, the sooner, the next, then, and now.
He handed me today and said, “This will do.
Tomorrow’s not yours. :Now is for me and you.”

I set all my alarms expecting a buzz and a beep,
Afraid I’d miss something if I was still asleep.
Sometimes a whisper came tapping at my brain.
“Wake up,” the Lord said. “It’s time for the train.”

I wanted to know what was coming next,
The chapter, the ending, the footnote, the text.
But God said, “My child, you don’t need that all—
Just light for your feet, not a floodlighted hall.”

So I held his hand tight and matched his stride,
Neither racing ahead nor lagging behind.
For we cannot stumble or wander astray
When we walk with the One who makes our day.

Solomon said there’s a time for everything, it’s true,
But matching time with our deeds can be hard to do.
“Just trust me,” God said, “when the waiting feels long.
I’ve never been early or late. And I’ve never been wrong.”

Now patience and passion walk side-by-side.
One says, “Let’s wait,” while one says, “Let’s ride.”
Perfect peace comes at last when I finally see—
God’s timing is perfect … meant just for me.
