Goals

You can’t predict what tomorrow might hold—or even if you’ll be around to write another page. Your life, like the clouds, is here for a moment and gone the next. So prioritize today and write while you have the chance. — James 4:14 Scripture for Writers

Some writers chase big goals far away in the sky,
But I’ve learned that tomorrow can zip right on by.
The Bible says our lives are like clouds on the run—
Here now, then they vanish in blink-and-you’re-done.

So I don’t fuss with goals stacked in some distant day.
I choose my priorities—everything I must do today.
For who knows if tomorrow will give me a chance
To scribble my stories or sharpen my stance?

Goals give direction, like a road map or strategy chart,
But reaching them? Only God sees the end from the start.
The best I can do—the best plan in my head—
Is doing what I should today, not something instead.

When goals sit out yonder, so far from my view,
It’s easy to say, “Today I can do what I want to do.”
Like that rabbit who dashed, then decided to play—
While the turtle kept inching along anyway.

That turtle, so steady—no rush, no big boast—
Finished the race with no hurry, no brag, no high-toast.
He won not by speed, but by choosing each day
To keep moving forward in his patient way.

So I’ll be the turtle—slow, steady, and true—
Doing today what the Lord calls me to do.
If I write every day, then I’ll never regret
A goal not yet reached—or a dream not done yet.

For tomorrow’s uncertain, but today I am here.
So I’ll write with intention and joy, not with fear.
And if someday I reach every dream that I drew—
It’ll be thanks to the “today” work I chose to do.
