Empowered, Not Entitled

The Holy Spirit is the power source for all kinds of spiritual manifestations, and our relationship with the Lord leads to all kinds of ministries. The same God works in people’s lives in different ways at different times in different situations. The Holy Spirit is given to accomplish whatever service we are called to do. — 1 Corinthians 12:4–7 The Discussion Bible

We’re each given gifts—big or small, short or tall—
But we’re not meant to grab every gift meant for all.
We must grow what we have, let it sprout, let it rise,
Not stare at our neighbor with I-want-that eyes.

Some chase after joy on the fast, speedy track,
Until they find that their joy took a step back.
But joy isn’t found where our desires run the show.
It blooms where God plants us and helps us to grow.

There are days full of sunshine and days full of rain,
Days of dancing for joy, and days trudging through pain.
Yet God uses all things—every storm, every light—
To guide us and grow us and make our hearts right.

So don’t fuss for “the more” or the “much I deserve.”
Don’t expect every mountain to shift or to swerve.
Just take what God gives you. His gifts are the key.
They’re designed for your, not your neighbor, you see.

If you will keep walking the path God has planned,
You’ll find him waking with you hand-in-hand.
It’s not what you’re “owed” but his love strong and true—
And the joy of becoming the “you” he wants for you.
