Feelin’ Good

Pay attention to the emotions of the people around you. Join in their joy when they celebrate, and share their sorrow when they hurt. Great writing begins with that kind of empathy. — Romans 12:15 Scripture for Writers

Some writers think stories need twists by the ton,
But heart is the secret that makes reading fun.
For tales without feelings, no matter the pop,
Are pancakes without berries or syrup on top.

Some folks hide emotions as tight as a drum,
While others spill tears like a waterfall’s hum.
But whether you show it or lock it inside,
Your stories need God’s love as their guide.

A couple can stand in the very same place,
Yet she beams with joy, while he hides his face.
For feelings aren’t facts. They’re thoughts we believe—
Little whispers of truth that our minds conceive.

Don’t guess at a smile or frown or a tear—
Some fake them, hide them, or wish they’d appear.
A story grows richer when feelings are real,
So sprinkle emotion with sparkle and zeal.

When God says, “Show it,” then let your heart shine,
But keep it well-guarded when timing’s not fine.
For writing with feeling gives stories appeal,
Tickling the mind and helping others to feel.
