Scattered Light

Like city lights on a hill that cannot be hidden, your testimony should give light to the whole world. — Matthew 5:14 Scripture for Writers

When at your computer with a spark in your brain,
You might wonder if your words sound insane.
Remember that influence sneaking in like light—
Tiptoeing around and becoming suddenly bright.

Your sentences whisper. Your stories may seem
Like insignificant ripples in someone else’s stream.
But ripples make rivers, and rivers will flow.
Your writing can reach place where you’ll never go.

Be less than obvious. Just be gentle and sweet.
Let kindness and laughter tap through your beat.
Don’t shout for attention or try to look grand.
Just shine like a firefly cupped in your hand.

Some folks may adore you and leap at your glow,
While others may grumble and say, “Oh, no!”
Your bright sparkle isn’t meant for all eyes.
But some will be glad to see the Son rise.

Your writing is fruit, both delicious and fun,
But fruit must be picked, or it nourishes none.
So offer your stories with joy as they’re told,
Each chapter a budding rose, ready to unfold.

Stay filled with God’s Spirit so your light won’t fade,
For writers lose sparkle when truth’s downplayed.
Just write with his presence and watch what ensues.
Your glow will be noticed by someone who’s bruised.

So scribble with courage. Write bold and free.
Someone in the shadows will be there to see.
Just follow your calling and brighten the night.
Oh writer, dear writer—go scatter your light.
