Dreams in the Night

God speaks, but we don’t hear. He speaks a second time, but we expect a different voice. When we are fast asleep, God may speak to us in a dream, a vision in the night. Sometimes God speaks warnings directly to our ears to keep us from pride and going our own self-serving ways. — Job 33:14–17 The Discussion Bible

When the nighttime starts its thinking and your busy day is done,
All your thoughts begin to wander where they cannot hide or run.
What you ponder in the daylight paints the pictures while you sleep—
So the dreams that come to visit are the ones your heart will keep.

If your mind is full of worry, then your dreams may swirl with fear,
But if peace is in your thinking, then your night grows calm and clear.
Give your thoughts to God each evening. Let his comfort settle in.
The storms that tried to follow will lose their bluster, hush, and spin.

Dreams may whisper hidden worries or remind us of what we seek.
But the Lord can guide our dreaming when our hearts are humbly meek.
So let’s rest tonight in quiet trust, beneath his gentle, watchful care—
For the God who guards our daytime is the One who’ll meet us there.
