When Life Hurts

The Lord is sensitive to the needs of the brokenhearted and will rescue those whose hearts are crushed. Righteous people suffer many afflictions, but the Lord is the deliverer from them all. — Psalm 34:18–19 The Discussion Bible

When life feels too heavy, too dark, or too deep,
When you’re tired from crying and too worn to sleep,
When the world is spinning, but you stand there still—
Just be sure you are held in God’s love and his will.

When pain makes you sit and sigh with a groan,
When troubles feels chilling, right down to the bone,
Don’t scold yourself harshly or call it a flaw.
Ride it out with the Lord, with courage and awe.

Procrastination may call with its whispers so sly:
“Don’t face it today. Just wait. Let the pain slide by.”
But waiting grows the pain. You’re feeling more blue.
The dread becomes worse than what you must do.

Just for a minute, catch your breath. Say a prayer.
You don’t have to hurry. Just pause and be there.
Daunting tasks are easier when you start small.
One step is good when you can’t take them all.

God is patient, never pushy or harsh in his tone—
He won’t shout demands when you’re left on your own.
He’s never far away. Listen as he whispers your name,
And says, “Child, I’m with you. I’m here in your pain.”

Some healing is quick, but the deep kinds take time.
Like the slow, gentle rhythm of heart’s healing rhyme.
People who keep going, although broken and sore—
Will one day become stronger than ever before.

So if all you can do is just breathe and then stand,
Or reach out and offer a weak, trembling hand—
God smiles with compassion and will lift you again,
For those who keep going are the ones who will win.

You don’t need to be fast. You don’t need to be strong.
You just need to keep going when life feels so wrong.
This chapter is painful, but it’s not your last page—
The Lord is your helpe, no matter your age.
