Practice for Better or Worse

Don’t be lazy or casual about your service, but diligently seek to please the Lord, rejoicing in patient endurance and prayer for the good that might result. — Romans 12:11–12 The Discussion Bible

I once heard a teacher, as teachers will do,
Say, “Practice makes perfect,” but that wasn’t true.
We know our sloppy methods, repeated with pride,
Will only grow worse, the more they’re applied.

If practice means perfect, then tell me, dear friend,
Why do some improve while some just pretend?
It’s our passion for improvement that shapes our gain.
Good effort brings growth, but bad lets habits remain.

So practice with purpose, with heart and with fire,
With passion that pulls you to climb ever higher.
Admit where you’re weak. Don’t shrink back in fright,
For truth is the spark that brings learning to light.

Each stumble’s a teacher, each setback a guide.
Each correction gives success a place to reside.
Keep stretching. Keep striving. Enjoy your art.
Passionate passion for good is a great jumpstart.
