No Longing for Egypt

“After a man puts his hand to the plow,” Jesus said, “he is not fit for the Kingdom of God if he keeps looking back.” — Luke 9:62 The Discussion Bible

The Israelites were quick to yearn
For comfort in their past return.
They missed the meals their chains supplied,
Forgetting what those meals had denied.

How often do we crave the same
Old habits with a newer name?
Faith walks ahead through desert dust,
Believing God’s next step is just.

We want to see before we leap,
But faith walks on while eyes still weep.
The giants loom. The walls are tall.
Yet God still whispers, “Trust me, y’all.”

A pilot flies through clouded skies,
Believing what his gauge implies.
God’s Word is truth when sight is dim—
The storm can’t steal our trust in him.

So fix your eyes on what’s ahead,
Not on the trails where fear has led.
For faith walks forward. Doubt looks back.
Keep pressing on and stay on track.
