Forgiveness is a burden rather strong,
Not something that makes a happy song.
It asks for us to drop our sword,
And trust the justice of the Lord.
It feels unfair to just let and offense go,
When pain runs deep and wounds still show.
But holding tight to wrongs we’ve known
Will rot the heart and chill the bone.
We cry, “Forgiveness isn’t what they deserve.”
Yet grace is something nobody can earn.
The cross reminds us where to start.
Forgiveness flows from God’s own heart.
It’s not a nod, a shrug, or a grin.
It’s choosing love again and again.
It’s setting free what we held tight,
And walking forward into the light.
It doesn’t mean we should always stay
Where harm and hurt still rule the day.
But even from a precarious place,
We choose to walk in truth and grace.
It’s not the weak who dare forgive.
It’s a gift that only a few will give.
But Christ forgave and bore our shame,
So we must forgive in Jesus’ name.
