Getting to Give

Give, and you will not have to worry about receiving. You will receive a full measure, packed down, shaken together, and spilling into your lap. The measure you give determines the measure you will receive. — Luke 6:38 The Discussion Bible

We think we’ll be happy when we get more,
With abundant possessions and more in store.
But Jesus said, “No, that’s not the way.
The blessing comes when you give away.”

A widow dropped coins—just one, then two,
So tiny they hardly made a clink as they flew.
The rich gave from plenty, with wealth to spare,
But she gave all she had, which is really rare.

To gain peace and wisdom, to live full of joy,
We can’t chase possessions or hoard every toy.
God fills the empty with treasures untold,
When we’re willing to let go of what we hold.

So give to help others, from all you hold dear.
Give and you’ll have plenty, year after year.
The secret is simple, but wondrous indeed—
In giving, we’re gaining the life that we need.
