When walking alone, we might think we see,
But blind as a bat we might unknowingly be.
The path looks so perfect. It feels oh so right.
Yet it can take us down in the dark of the night.
Our feelings may waver. They wiggle and swing,
So trusting our hearts can be a dangerous thing.
As sweet candies are inviting but bitter medicine heals,
God knows the truth that our vision can conceal.
We ask for his voice, but sometimes we disguise,
As we seek permission for what we devise.
Like Satan who stumbled by wanting his way,
Our self-serving desires can lead us astray.
Prayer should be a compass to keep us aligned,
For God’s Spirit redirects the lost and the blind.
One step, then another, he shows what is best,
And those who obey him find safety and rest.
So step after step, we must listen and pray,
And trust him to show us his perfect way.
With Jesus beside us, there’s nothing to fear,
For blindness is better when it’s his voice we hear.
