Hidden Treasure

Do not store up treasure for yourselves on Earth, where moths and rust can eat it up and thieves break in and steal. Instead, store your treasure in Heaven, where it is safe from moths and rust and thieves. Wherever your treasure is, there your heart will be also. — Matthew 6:19–21 The Discussion Bible

Don’t pile up treasures all shiny and bright,
Where moths come to nibble by day and by night.
Where rust likes to creep and where thieves like to steal—
The treasures down here aren’t ever the best deal.

You can stack it, you can pack it, you can hide it away,
But the moths and the rust will still find it someday.
And sneaky, quick thieves with their tip-toeing feet—
Will find where it’s hidden and take every treat.

But wait. There’s a place where your treasures won’t fall,
Where moths can’t nibble and rust won’t crawl.
Where thieves can’t snatch and steal in the dark—
It’s a heavenly treasure that’s safe in God’s park.

So store up your treasure where it can’t decay,
Where joy won’t rust and can’t float away.
For wherever you stash what you treasure the most,
That’s where your heart will be living—like toast.

So think of this question when planning your day:
Where’s your heart, and what’s guiding your way?
Is it stuck in the stuff that’s bound to be dust,
Or is it with treasures that sparkle with trust?

Build up your treasure in Heaven, you see—
For that’s where your heart’s meant forever to be.
