Not Guilty

By the Law, I am condemned and nailed to the cross with Christ, but now he is alive in me to do his will. My flesh is committed to believing and following the Son of God, who loves me and sacrificed his life for me. — Galatians 2:20 The Discussion Bible

I once was a rule-breaker, trapped by God’s Law,
No hope anywhere, for fear was all I saw.
The verdict was certain: “You’re guilty,” it said,
The gavel came crashing. I hung down my head.

But wait. What is this? A man on a tree?
He’s hanging up there, a sacrifice for me.
He took all my guilt, my shame, and my sin,
And he nailed it with the spikes through his skin.

I died with him that cross. Yes, it’s true.
The “old me” is gone, saying farewell and adieu.
But the story’s not over—no sir, not quite,
For now I’m alive in his power and might.

It’s Jesus who lives in my body today.
He walks where I walk, and he shows me the way.
He guides my speech, and he loves through my hands.
He leads me through deserts, oases, and sands.

I live by faith—yes, my faith in the One
Who loved me so deeply, God’s very own Son.
He gave up his life, paying the greatest price,
And now I belong to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Goodbye, old self. You had quite the run,
But I’ve traded you in for the life of the Son.
He’s risen and reigning. His presence brings liberty.
I’m living his purpose, being who he made me to be.

Alive, not alone, and redeemed by his grace—
I’m carried each day by his loving embrace.
So if you feel lost, or you’re stuck in your mess,
Join in his freedom, always saying to him, “Yes.”
