Before You Pray

If you are praying at the altar and remember a grudge against another person, leave your offering and seek reconciliation. Then come and offer your gift. — Matthew 5:23–24 The Discussion Bible

If you’re kneeling to pray or you’re singing a song,
But you know in your heart that something is wrong,
If a grudge has been stewing or a friendship is sore,
Don’t just keep praying. Go settle that score.

Leave your gift at the altar. Just give it a pause.
There’s mending to do for a very good cause.
Let go of the anger, the grudge, and the spite.
Go make it right. Turn the wrong into right.

For God loves a gift, but prefers a pure heart,
One free from the bitterness that pulls apart.
So don’t wait or stall or pretend it’s okay.
Go hug it out first. Then come back and pray.
