We can sing with rejoicing, “Lord, you I adore.”
We can dance in the pews and do services galore.
We can pray all our prayers and quote verses by heart,
But if we don’t do what we say … that’s not smart.
For not every voice that says, “Lord, I obey.”
Will walk through pearly gates on that last day.
It’s not just the talk. It’s the truth in our stride.
The ones who obey stay close by his side.
We built churches. We prayed in Jesus’ name.
We preached in the streets, gaining fortune and fame.
Yet God may say, “You followed the plans you designed.
While calling me your Lord, you left me behind.”
God’s will is the map for the path we must take,
Through sunshine and storm, through pain and heartache.
Neither flashy nor loud, not fancy, not grand …
We follow his ways and obey his commands.
So don’t just say “Master” in a tone that sounds sweet.
Make sure that your faith stands strong on two feet.
For the ones who will enter God’s Kingdom above,
Will be those who have shown our Father’s great love.
