Never Fail to Tell the Tale

I will open my mouth with a story and explain mysteries kept secret from the beginning. We learned these things from our ancestors and must tell the next generation. The Lord’s wonderful works and mighty miracles should not be kept secret. — Psalm 78:2–4 The Discussion Bible

I’ll open my mouth with a story to tell,
Of mysteries hidden, of things we know well.
They’re no longer secrets. They’re not locked away.
They’re treasures to share and to tell every day.

Our grandfathers told them. Their stories ran deep,
Of promises faithful and blessings to keep.
The tales of God’s wonders, his power and might,
That chased away darkness and brought us his light.

Oh, don’t keep it quiet. Don’t lock it up tight.
These stories bring hope and joy and better sight.
From fathers to daughters, from mothers to sons,
The stories of God must be passed on as one.

We’ll shout of his wonders as loud as we dare,
So children will know him and see he is there.
We’ll tell all our stories and songs every year,
So no mighty wonder will just disappear.

Oh, listen up closely. Come gather around.
God’s marvelous works must forever resound.
For stories grow strong when we give them away—
So let’s tell his wonders today and each day.
