Choice to Embrace

If serving the Lord seems undesirable, then you must make a choice whether you will serve the gods of your ancestors beyond the Euphrates or the gods of the Amorites. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. — Joshua 24:15 The Discussion Bible

Why do people choose what they choose every day?
Why do some walk God’s path, while others stray?
I puzzle, I wonder, I think, and I ask.
To figure this out is no simple task.

Some say we’re programmed, with no choice of our own.
But that doesn’t sit right in the depths of my bone.
When I God began to change me, I was selfish before,
But now I want the light of his love so much more.

Yet still I keep asking, I still want to know—
Why some say yes to God but others say no.
Why does truth make many run, but some draw near?
Why do some fall away while some persevere?

Is it spiritual DNA, deep in our core?
Is it free will, or could it be more?
What flips the desire? What tips the old scale?
Why do some find the truth while others just fail?

I’ve changed and I’m changing. I know that is true.
With each step toward God, he steps my way too.
But why don’t others follow? What holds them away?
Why do some hearts just refuse to obey?

It’s a mystery, yes, far beyond what I see.
Yet I’m called to keep walking, to simply be me.
To serve and to love, and to offer the choice—
To keep sharing God’s truth with a passionate voice.

Some will embrace it. Some will not.
Some will love darkness. Some will get caught.
But choice is the point. It’s the reason we care.
Without it, the message would just float in the air.

I must trust God’s plan, though the questions remain.
I’ll keep seeking answers through sunshine and rain.
And though I can’t solve every puzzle I find,
I’ll follow God’s lead with my heart and my mind.

For it’s not just the answer. It’s also the quest.
To love, to serve, and to give him my best.
I may never quite know why some people refuse,
But I choose to embrace him. Yes, that’s what I choose.
